    WHEELCHAIR PROPULSION AND EQUILIBRIUM - CALL FOR A SPANISH AND/OR
    ITALIAN PARTNERSHIP

    Dear Biomch-L readers,

    Our research lies on the determination of both mechanical and
    physiological parameters involved in wheelchair propulsion and
    equilibrium (last references below). In this aim, we have developed a
    physical model of forces and torques calculation for the dynamic
    analysis of the wheelchair propulsion. This model allows to determine
    both the 3 components and the point of application of the force applied
    by the athlete on the handrim, as well as the resulting propulsion
    moment.

    Next month, we will dispose of a wheel specially designed for the
    measurement of these values, in real time and in various situations.
    These dynamic data along with some kinematic data (speed of the
    wheelchair, slope of the floor) will be recorded on a completely free
    acquisition device, developed in our laboratory and fixed on the
    wheelchair.

    For the experimental validation of these model and device and the
    application of this system in different living, occupational and
    sporting situations, we are looking for a partnership - through a
    european scientific collaboration - with a Medical Laboratory interested
    by the aim of this study.
