Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry)
3-Year Ph.D. Scholarship
An new Ph.D. student is sought to undertake research into exercise
rehabilitation following spinal cord injury using FES of lower-limb muscles.
This project is a collaboration wiith an indistry partner (Multi-Tems P/L,
Sydney, Australia) to develop a new prototype FES exercise device for
patent and international distribution. The successful candidate will receive
an Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) for up to three years of
full-time doctoral research.
Essential Criteria: The successful applicant must have an undergraduate
degreein biomedical engineering, medicine, physiotherapy, human physiology
or biochemistry, human movement studies, electrical engineering, mechanical
engineering, or a similar field. The applicant must also have a
research-based honours degree, masters degree (by research) or equivalent
research experience to be eligible for doctoral studies within the Faculty
of Health Sciences. The applicant must have good communication skills.
Finally, the applicant must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
of Australia who is able to undertake Ph.D. candidact in the first or second
semester of 1997.
Desirable Criteria: Previous work experience and a solid background in
exercise conditioning as rehabilitation for individuals with disease or
disability is an asset. Previous experience with analogue/digital data
acquisition and computer language programming in one or more of C/C++,
Delphi=AE, Visual Basic=AE, Labview=AE, Fortran,or another low-level=
programming
language would aid the successful applicant in=20
undertaking this project.
Period of Scholarship: The Ph.D. scholarship is for 3 years with the
possibility of a further offer of up to 1 year subject to need and the
availability of funding. The scholarshipis tenable from Semester 1, 1997 but
must be undertaken no later than Semester II, 1997.
