The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is a federal research and
development laboratory administered by the University of California for the
Department of Energy. LLNL has brought its history of excellence in
engineering development, computational modeling, and human factors research
to focus on the prevention and treatment of occupational hand injuries and
the modeling of upper extremity movement.
We are currently seeking excellent candidates for the following three positions:
1. ERGONOMICS/BIOMECHANICS POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER
Description: We are seeking postdoctoral scientists with strong
backgrounds in ergonomics, computational biology, biomechanical
engineering, or motion analysis. Appointees will be expected to perform
independent research in occupational biomechanics, 3-D motion analysis, and
product evaluation and design related to hand tools and computer input
devices.
Preferred Skills/Background:
- Recent Ph.D. in engineering or computational biology, with a strong
research background.
- Knowledge of Macintosh systems and software, including LabVIEW.
- Experience in development of sensors and data acquisition systems for
motion analysis and/or force analysis.
- A solid publication track record.
- Strong quantitative and laboratory technical abilities.
- Working ability using computer data acquisition/analysis systems.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
2. ERGONOMICS/BIOMECHANICS LABORATORY RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Description: The research assistant will be responsible for completing
experiments to quantify human movements that are part of ongoing ergonomics
investigations. Duties include assisting researchers during acquisition
and analysis of 3-D motion and force data, validation of measurement
protocols and management and analysis of experimental results. The ideal
candidate will have strong quantitative and laboratory technical abilities
with a minimum education base in engineering science. Programming, and
statistical analysis experience is also desired.
Preferred Skills/Background:
- Graduate student or a recent graduate with a bachelors in
engineering, physics or applied mathematics.
- Strong quantitative and laboratory technical abilities.
- Working ability using computer data acquisition/analysis systems.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Position requires a 6 month commitment of 30-40 hours per week.
- Own transportation to commute to Livermore.
3. MEDICAL/WORKPLACE ERGONOMICS RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Description: The research assistant will participate in collaborative
studies between LLNL and leading ergonomic centers. Duties vary but would
include interacting with physicians, recruiting research subjects, data
entry and analysis, and assisting postdoctoral researchers in the
activities described above. We have a strong track record of placing
individuals from this position entering leading graduate and post-graduate
academic programs.
Preferred Skills/Background:
- Graduate student or a recent graduate with a bachelors in biology,
engineering, psychology or medically related field
- Excellent writing/ communication skills
- Familiarity with data acquisition and analysis
- Professional demeanor with the public and patients.
- Position requires a 6 month commitment of 30-40 hours per week.
- Strong working knowledge of Macintosh computers.
- Own transportation to commute to Livermore.
- Background in ergonomics, product design, computer science, physiology,
or engineering is preferred.
