Post-Doctoral Position in Bioengineering
A post-doctoral position on the rheology and biochemistry of
post-arthroplasty synovial fluid is available jointly in the
Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery, UC San Francisco and Mechanical
Engineering, UC Berkeley. This project is part of a longer-term
effort to improve lubrication of artificial joints. Responsibilities
will be to perform rheologic testing of synovial fluid, mathematical
analysis of these data, biochemical analysis of hyaluronic acid, and
statistical analysis of all results. The position is
inter-disciplinary in nature, where the candidate will work closely
with orthopaedic surgeons at UCSF and bioengineers at UCB.
Preferences will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in mechanical or
related engineering, ideally with expertise in rheology of biological
fluids. Full training will be provided in all procedures,
particularly the biochemical analysis techniques. Additionally,
clinical experience will be provided in total joint replacement. A
one year position is being offered, with a possible second year
pending funding. This position is ideal for engineers who wish to
develop new expertise in biochemical and clinical aspects of total
joint replacement. Please send a statement of purpose, resume, and
names (addresses and phone numbers) of two references, by April 15,to:
