  • Seeking advice on career change to Biomechanics

Hi, my name is Tom Szonntag and I'm seeking advice from those of you in the
biomechanics community on the feasibility of a career change into
biomechanics. After fifteen years of varied engineering experiences in the
electric power production industry, I finally did some serious career
planning and decided, as a result, to consider pursuing my lifelong interest
in the study of the human body from the engineer's point of view. In
particular, I have a tremendous interest in performance of the human body in
sports (I'm a sports fanatic myself!).

I have a B.S. in Civil Eng. and an M.S. in Mechanical Eng. (including
coursework in biomechanics). My experience includes design and applications
engineering, and troubleshooting, of industrial plant equipment.

My dream is to get into technical sales in the biomechanics field; however, I
need advice from experienced people on whether this is achievable given my
    background
(and given that I don't want to return to school full-time). Here are my
    questions:
    1. What type of positions are available along the lines of what I described
    above (especially in sports)?
    2. How can I position myself to get such a postion? e.g additional course
work, prior experience in medical equip. sales, etc.
    3. Who else would you suggest I talk to ?

Any personal experiences, ideas, contacts, or references would be welcome.

    Thanks in advance!
