    INTERNATIONAL CENTRE OF BIOCYBERNETICS
    WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION
COLLABORATING CENTRE FOR RESEARCH AND TRAINING
    IN BIOCYBERNETICS AND BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING

The International Centre of Biocybernetics (ICB) was established in
Warsaw on 1 June 1988 in order to promote the development of the field
of biocybernetics. In 1991 the ICB was appointed as a World Health
Organization Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Bio-
cybernetics and Biomedical Engineering. The ICB is a multi-national
association of the Academies of Science and of organizations interested
in biocybernetics and health care improvement through science and
technology. Membership to the ICB is open, new members are admitted
by application in writing and upon signing the agreement about the
    establishment of the ICB.

    SCIENTIFIC COUNCIL

The Scientific Council is the governing body for scientific affairs of
the ICB. Each Academy (or organization) that has signed the agreement
has 1-2 representatives in the Scientific Council. The first meeting of
the Scienfic Council took place on 30-31 May 1988. The Scientific Council
has the following members: Prof. dr. O. Bielocerkowski, member of the
Academy of Science of the USSR (chairman of the Scientific Council); Prof.
dr. A. Racziew (Bulgaria); Prof. dr. J. Demetrowicz, corresponding member
of the Hungarian Academy of Science; Prof. dr. Kim Song Gun (Korea); Prof.
dr. L. Filipczynski, member of the Polish Academy of Science, Prof. dr. M.
Nalecz, member of the Polish Academy of Science; Prof. dr. M. Nicu (Ruma-
nia); Prof. dr. J. Zurawlew, corresponding member of the Academy of the
Science of USSR; Prof. dr. Dai Duaj Ban, Prof. dr. Le Suan Lo (Vietnam).

    MAIN TASK FOR THE ICB

The main goal of the ICB is to improve the professional qualifications of
the specialists in the field of biocybernetics and biomedical engineering.
    This goal is fostered by:
-organizing short and long term seminars, conferences and other scientific
    meetings,
-inviting distinguished scientists and specialists as lecturers at the
    above mentioned meetings,
-organizing scientific information within a given field, together with
    setting up a well-equipped library,
-publishing the results of the ICB seminars.

    SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY

The ICB organizes each year 5 seminars in the following main fields of
biocybernetics and biomedical engineering: biosystems, biomeasurements,
artificial organs, biomechanics, and bioinformatics. The duration of
each seminar is 10 days (approximately 50 hours of lectures). The
lectures deal with: theoretical background, mathematical and physical
modelling of physiological systems as well as with the problems of new
technology and design of devices and systems for diagnosis, therapy and
information processing. The programme of realized and planned seminars
    is attached.

    PUBLICATION

The journal "Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering" is the official
journal of the ICB. The full text (in English) of lectures delivered
at the ICB seminars are published in another publication: Lecturers are
kindly asked to submitt their texts 4 months before the data of the
    seminar.

    OTHERS

English is the language of the ICB seminars. Lecturers of the seminars
from countriesthat have signed the agreement about the establishment of
the ICB are delegated by their Academies. Lecturers from non-member
countries are invited by the director of the ICB and the Polish Academy
of Science covers the costs of their stay in Poland. Participants of
the seminars are delegated by their Academies or cover the participation
costs by themselves. Accomodation for seminar lecturers and participants
is provided in the ICB hotel. During weekends, sightseeing visits are
organized. Actual prices will be given in Announcements about particular
    seminars.
