POSITION: Research Assistant (Start date: January, 1998)
INSTITUTION: New York Chiropractic College
LABORATORY: Biodynamics Laboratory
RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Director of Research, the Research
Assistant will be responsible for the supervising the daily operation of
the
human physiology/Biodynamics laboratory. The Assistant will also
participate
in on-going applied and clinical trials.
Specifically the Research Assistant will:
1. Manage scheduling of lab facilities and coordinate the research
activities
of faculty and students. Supervise activities of workstudy students.
2. Assist faculty and students with equipment and instrumentation
setup.
Instruct users in the proper methods for using equipment and
supervise that
useage. As needed perform equipment maintenance, cleaning and
calibration.
Perform minor electronic or mechanical repairs and/or modifications
as
needed.
3. Work with faculty and students to recruit, orient, screen and
schedule
subjects/patients for experimental trials. Actively participate in
data
acquisition and analysis, performing data entry and programming tasks
as
needed.
4. Maintain laboratory equipment and supply inventory. Monitor supplies
and
process requests for additional purchases as needed. Reconcile
invoices
and process payments to vendors.
5. Perform routine cleaning and sterilization procedures in laboratory
as
needed.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in biological science and 2 years
human
physiology laboratory/research experience required. Computer programming
skills with virtual instruments (Labview) desired. Experience using
word-processing, spreadsheet software required. Mechanical and
instrumentation
repair skills a plus. Chiropractic training desirable. Ability to work
independently necessary.
LOCATION: The 286 acre main campus is located in the Finger Lakes, wine
country region, of Upstate New York. The Seneca Falls campus centered
between
Syracuse and Rochester on the northern tip of Cayuga Lake. The campus is
adjacent to a golf course, Cayuga Lake and a state park. A wildlife
refuge
and extensive farmlands provide for excellent outdoor recreational
activities
including boating, fishing, hunting and skiing.
