FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS GLOBAL ERGONOMICS CONFERENCE, CAPE
TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA, 9-11 SEPTEMBER 1998
Organised by the Ergonomics Society of South Africa and the International
Ergonomics Association, in collaboration with the University of Cape Town
and the Lulee University of Technology, Sweden.
CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES
* To report the latest advances in ergonomics research and practice around
the world
* To present research and position papers on ergonomic problems
with a global flavour
* To examine global trends and their impact on ergonomics research and
practice
* To evaluate the application of ergonomics in industrially developed and
developing countries
* To foster international links, particularly between Africa and the rest
of the
world
PROGRAMME
The conference will have a varied programme, but speakers are encouraged
to present their work and ideas with reference to "global" themes of
their choice. The conference will provide an opportunity for researchers
to make contact with colleagues in other parts of the world particularly
Africa. Some "Global Issues" of relevance are:

- Micro and Macroergonomics
- Ergonomics in Production and Manufacturing
- Ergonomics in Services and Administration

author(s) a short title of the paper and 4 keywords

- The person(s) intending to attend the conference.

CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS
Presenters of papers will receive, in advance, an author's kit with full
instructions concerning the preparation of papers for he proceedings
(maximum length 6 pages, single spaced including references).

ABOUT CAPE TOWN AND ENVIRONS
Cape Town in situated on the Southwest tip of the African continent and
was founded over 300 years ago. The climate is Mediterranean and the city
is well known for its scenic beauty. Nearby is South Africa's main wine
and fruit producing area and there is a lively local fishing industry.
Cape Town is an excellent point of departure for those wishing to visit
other parts of Africa. The road, rail and air links are all more than
adequate to support a variety of excursions.
SOCIAL PROGRAMME AND OTHER ACTIVITIES
Apart from the mainstream conference programme there will be seminars,
poster sessions and a varied social calendar. Many day trips and other
outings can be booked and joined directly at the conference venue itself,
including trips up Table Mountain, tours of the Cape Peninsula and Nature
Reserve as well as boat trips in Table Bay and excursions to local
wineries by car, coach or train.
Direct flights to Cape Town are available from many major centres
including, Miami, New York, London, Amsterdam, Kuala Lumpur, Buenos Aires
and Perth. Internal flights from Johannesburg are available hourly. For
those coming from or wishing to visit other parts of Africa, regular
connecting flights are available to and from Johannesburg as well as
excursions to the Kruger National Park.
