UNIVERSITY OF BERN
MAURICE E. MUELLER INSTITUTE FOR BIOMECHANICS
ORTHOPAEDIC BIOMECHANICS DIVISION
************************************************
The Orthopaedic Biomechanics Division of the Maurice E. Mueller Institute
for Biomechanics at the University of Bern is searching for qualified
applicants to head the Basic and Clinical Biomechanics (BCB) Group.
The staff of the BCB Group consists of about 10 researchers from a wide
variety of backgrounds, i.e. civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers,
physicists, and surgeons. It also includes visiting scientists as well as
undergraduate students from local engineering schools.
The major areas of focus of the BCB Group are state of the art implant
evaluations and musculo-skeletal injury mechanisms. Research methodologies
involve primarily in vivo and in vitro experimental work, using human and
animal models, as well as mathematical (FEA) models. The anatomic areas of
interest are the spine, hip and knee.
Candidates should have an earned doctorate in bioengineering, engineering,
or a related field. Requirements include expertise in clinical biomechanics,
including mathematical, i.e. analytical and approximation methods (FEA) as
well as in vitro and in vivo experimental protocols. Experience in spine
and/or hip biomechanics, in particular related to implant design/evaluation
and surgical techniques is highly desired.
The successful applicant will be expected to develop a strong externally
funded research program in the appropriate discipline and participate in
various interdisciplinary research activities. The position does not involve
any teaching responsibilities.
