  • Strength available and used during comfortable walking

    Dear Biomech-L:

Recently, I was asked by a colleague on how much effort a healthy adult
uses during level comfortable walking. I think, to answer the question
quantitatively, it is the ratio between the maximum joint torque of lower
extremity and the joint torque used during walking. One study says it is
about 60 percent. However, due to most of the strength measurement is
isometric. it is hard to compare them to dynamic joint torques during
walking. So, I don't know if anyone has done a closer look on this
question. Any suggestion or comment is welcome. Thanks in advance.
