Hello. I have tried to make verhoeff's stain to use for optical strain
measurements on human knee ligaments, but I can not seem to get it to
stain correctly. (Instead of a dark stain, it is a pale green). It may
be that the mixture calls for Iron Chloride II, and the FeCL2 that
I have is oxidized and consequently makes a solution that contains a rusty
colored precipitate.
If anyone has made this stain and has suggestions as to what I may be
doing incorrectly, please contact me. Also if anyone knows of a good,
relatively recent reference that contains directions to make this stain,
please let me know.
