  • energy at heel strike during walking

    Biomch-l subscribers,

I am interested in the amount of energy imparted to the heel or the
amount of work done on the heel (this should be the same) at heel strike
during comfortable cadence. From Shorten's 1993 J. of Biomechanics
article (vol 26, suppl. 1, pp 41-51) I can obtain the work done on the
midsole of a running shoe during running (11.5 J) and I can make an
estimate of the total amount at the heel (roughly 5 J). However, this
is for running, not walking. I would appreciate it if anyone was aware
of some work in this area.
