Today's topics:
(1) BIOMCH-L membership
(2) First IOC World Congress on Sports Sciences
(3) Oxford Orthopaedic Engineering Centre Annual Report
-------------------------
(1) BIOMCH-L membership
Current membership for BIOMCH-L is 65, including a number of local News Distrib-
ution lists (University of Waterloo, Canada; Catholic University of Leuven, Bel-
gium; University of Maryland, USA; Carnegy Mellon University, USA). Details of
country membership can be obtained by sending the command
REVIEW BIOMCH-L (COUNTRIES
to LISTSERV@HEARN. As discussed last year, individual subscribers' names are
currently confidential, but I'm quite prepared to consider removing this con-
straint if a substantial majority should so desire. Readers who wish to pre-
serve or undo their anonymity can do so by sending the command
(NO)CONCEAL BIOMCH-L
to LISTSERV@HEARN. Note that the originating address should be identical to
the one under which you have been subscribed; in the case of VAX/VMS clusters
on EARN/BITNET/NETNORTH, these names are currently different if you subscribed
via an interactive command or via an emailed command. For example, my site
name is HEITUE51 (interactive address), buth my cluster name is HEITUE5 (email
address).
The number of mailings on BIOMCH-L has been disappointingly low during the past
few weeks; may I suggest that you all think of interesting items that warrant
wider dissemination? Calls for Papers, Calls for Help, Book Announcements and
Reviews, or Lab Descriptions would all be highly useful for the readership, and
the informal nature of BIOMCH-L should enhance such activities. Remember that
submission of an item to the list is straightforward: just send your posting to
BIOMCH-L@HEARN, and everything will be taken care of (NB: LISTSERV@HEARN is
only intended for administrative matters such as subscription, log file retrie-
val, etc.).

(2) First IOC World Congress on Sports Sciences
The first I.O.C. World Congress on Sport Sciences will convene from 28 October
through 3 November 1989 in the Broadmoor Hotel, Colorado Springs, CO/USA; it
is promoted by the International Olympic Committee's Medical Commission, orga-
nized by the US Olympic Committee, and sponsored by 3M Health Care. Abstracts
of research papers are now being sollicited for presentation at the meeting.
Papers must be of direct relevance to one of the following specialty areas:
Biological Sciences (Physiology and Biochemistry of Exercise), Medical Sciences
(Orthopaedics, General Medicine, Injury Prevention and Treatment), Physical
Sciences (Biomechanics, Technology, Engineering), or Psychosocial Sciences
(Psychology, Motor Behaviour).
Abstracts should not exceed 200 words in length and must state the objectives
of the study, materials and methods, results and conclusions, and significance
of the findings. Abstracts must contain the name of the institution, name of
the author who would present the paper at the congress, and the names of all
co-authors. The name, address, and daytime telephone number of the person to
whom correspondence relative to the paper should be addressed must also be
given.
Abstracts accepted for presentation at the Congress will become the property of
the International Olympic Committee and/or U.S. Olympic Committee for publica-
tion purposes. Authors will be required to submit a more detailed, two-page
abstract in a specified publication-ready format prior to the congress for in-
clusion in the Congress Proceedings.
Deadline for receipt of abstracts is April 15, 1989.
