    Southeastern Louisiana University has extended its search for
    applicants for a 12-month tenure track Department Head for
    Kinesiology and Health Studies available January 1998. The
    University, one of the nation's fastest-growing regional,
    comprehensive, interactive universities, enrolls over 15,000
    undergraduate and graduate students. Hammond is centrally
    located within an hour's drive of New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and
    the Mississippi Gulf Coast, affording extensive cultural,
    recreational, and research opportunities.

    One of four departments in the College of Education,
    Kinesiology and Health Studies has 21 full time faculty, over
    450 undergraduate majors, and 40 graduate students. The
    department offers the B.A. in Kinesiology with concentrations in
    Health Promotion and Exercise Science, Dance, Sports Management,
    Athletic Training, and Teacher Certification. The graduate
    degree is an M.A. in Health Studies & Kinesiology, with
    concentrations in Health Studies, Kinesiology, Health Promotion
    and Exercise Science.

    Qualifications: Required earned doctorate in one of the
    disciplines represented in the department; the ability to
    communicate effectively; evidence of successful research and
    professional achievement; strong leadership and organizational
    skills; commitment to all the department's programs and the
    diverse lines of research among faculty; demonstrated success in
    teaching; and overall qualifications that will merit a faculty
    appointment of full professor or associate professor (with
    promise of achieving full professor). Preferred record of success
    in obtaining external support for scholarly activities; national
    visibility within the profession; understanding of fiscal
    management in higher education; and a record of success in
    curriculum development.
