    FACULTY POSITION AVAILABLE

    Orthopaedic Research Laboratory
    University of Pennsylvania

The Orthopaedic Research Laboratory of the Department of Orthopaedic
Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking applicants for a
junior faculty position in orthopaedic biomechanics or tissue engineering.
A secondary appointment in the Department of Bioengineering and membership
in the Institute of Medicine and Engineering at the University is possible
for the appropriate individual. This individual is expected to contribute
to both teaching and research and to develop an independent extramurally
funded research program as well as collaborate with both basic science and
clinical faculty in the Laboratory. Applicants in all research areas will
be considered and experience in soft tissues, tissue engineering, and/or
upper extremity mechanics would be desirable.

The Orthopaedic Research Laboratory is currently undergoing a major
renovation including design of new laboratory facilities on campus,
purchase of new equipment, and the addition of new faculty, staff, and
students. The laboratories include capabilities for mechanical testing at
large and small scales, device and component fabrication, and computing and
image processing. Additional contiguous and collaborative orthopaedic
research laboratory activities are devoted to biologic, biochemical,
electron microscopic, tissue and cell culture, and histologic studies of
    both hard and soft tissues.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering,
Mechanics, or a related field. Outstanding graduate students nearing
degree completion, current postdoctoral fellows, or junior faculty members
are welcome to apply. Salary is very competitive and based on experience
with an excellent fringe benefit package. A letter of interest briefly
outlining career plans, a resume or curriculum vitae, and names and
addresses of five references should be sent to:
