GRADUATE STUDENT RESEARCH ASSISTANT POSITIONS AVAILABLE
Orthopaedic Research Laboratory
University of Pennsylvania
The Orthopaedic Research Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania is
seeking applicants for graduate student research assistantships in
Bioengineering or Mechanical Engineering. The Orthopaedic Research
Laboratory is currently undergoing a major renovation including design of
new laboratory facilities on campus, purchase of new equipment, and the
addition of new faculty, staff, and students. The laboratories include
capabilities for mechanical testing at large and small scales, device and
component fabrication, and computing and image processing. Additional
contiguous and collaborative orthopaedic research laboratory activities are
devoted to biologic, biochemical, electron microscopic, tissue and cell
culture, and histologic studies of both hard and soft tissues.
Research areas include orthopaedic biomechanics or tissue engineering.
Some examples of specific research projects include: structure-function
relationships in tendons and ligaments using transgenic mouse models,
mechanical testing, and mathematical modeling; investigations on rotator
cuff injury and healing; biologic and mechanical alterations to tendon and
tendon-to-bone attachment injury and repair; biomechanics of the shoulder
and elbow joints.
Applicants should have a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Bioengineering,
Mechanical Engineering, Mechanics, or a related field. Outstanding
students are encouraged to apply to the Departments of Bioengineering or
Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. A letter of
interest and a resume or curriculum vitae should also be sent to:
Louis J. Soslowsky, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Bioengineering
Director of Orthopaedic Research
University of Pennsylvania
