Postdoctoral Position in Joint Kinematics at the
Department of Orthopaedic Surgery

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Hannover Mediocal School
is seeking qualified applicants for a minimum 2 year appointment in
biomechanics.
The position opens immediatley. Specifically, the successful applicant
will head the joint kinematics research group at the biomechanics
laboratory.
A major focus of this reasearch group will be to develop advanced in-vitro
simulations of shoulder motion, preferably using robot techniques.
The validated simulation will be used for answering research questions
regarding muscle/ ligament function and shoulder protheses design.
The second focus will be on research questions adressing foot and
ankle joint kinematics. This work will include applied research with
an already existing dynamic foot/ankle motion apparatus.
The Department at Hannover Medical School is a major center for
Orthopaedic Surgery in Germany. Its biomechanics laboratory
represents a multi-disciplinary research facility involved in basic and
applied research including joint kinematics, cartilage and bone
tissue engineering and spinal reasearch.
Candidates should have an earned doctorate in bioengineering,
engineering, or a related field. Requirements should preferably
include expertise in joint kinematics,
robotics, tracking devices, mechanical testing, including mathematical,
i.e.
analytical and approximation methods as well as in vitro and in vivo
experimental protocols. Experience in shoulder or foot biomechanics,
in particular related to protheses design/evaluation
would be welcome.
The position is funded for 2 and ½ years with the option for another year
and will
open immediately. The department has interest to establish a long lasting
relationship.
The salary will be approx. US $45000, according to german standard BAT
IIa.
Basic german language skills are very welcome.
