    VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

    Position Title (Position # 20392)
    Assistant Professor of Kinesiology and Physical Education

    Qualifications and Experience
    Earned doctorate in a related field is required by August 19, 1998.
    Candidates must have a background and expertise in exercise
    physiology and be able to contribute in one other area as identified
    below. Applicants must have an established research record and
    college/university teaching experience is desired. There is a
    University policy which precludes selection of individuals whose
    terminal or highest degree is from the University of Northern
    Colorado, except in unusual circumstances, as determined by the
    President of the University.

    Position Description
    This is a full-time, nine month tenure track appointment in the
    School of Kinesiology and Physical Education. Responsibilities
    include: teaching electrocardiography, exercise physiology
    (undergraduate and graduate), and one other area (anatomical
    kinesiology or biomechanics); conducting research; enhancing the
    School's kinesiology program; advising undergraduate and graduate
    students; serving on School and University committees; and performing
    other duties as required. Computer technology skills are desirable
    especially related to innovative teaching techniques. Applicants
    must address specific areas of competence across all areas.
    Candidates will be selected based on a comparison of qualifications
    and departmental needs.

    Salary and Benefits
    Assistant Professor salary commensurate with qualifications and
    experience. Summer school appointment may also be available.
    Benefits include health, life, and dental insurance as well as a
    selection of several defined contribution retirement programs.

    Federal regulations require that all documents submitted by
    applicants be retained by the University. Materials will not be
    returned or copied for applicants. This position is contingent on
    funding from the Colorado Legislature, approval by the Board of
    Trustees, and subject to the policies and regulations of the
    University of Northern Colorado.

    Location and Environment
    The University of Northern Colorado is one of three major public
    universities in Colorado. The academic enrollment is approximately
    10,000 students with about 450 faculty. Greeley is located 50 miles
    north of Denver, 30 miles east of the Rocky Mountains, and has a
    population of approximately 63,000.

    Additional Information
    The beginnings of the School of Kinesiology and Physical Education at
    UNC date back some 90 years when the University pioneered the West's
    first physical education program. The University, 100 years old in
    1990, also has a long history of leadership in graduate education,
    and in the 1980's was designated by the Colorado legislature as the
    state's center of graduate education in teacher preparation.

    The master's degree in physical education has been conferred for
    more than 50 years and the doctorate for more than 30. Today, UNC
    offers the only doctorate in physical education in Colorado with
    emphases in Pedagogy, Kinesiology and Sports Administration. With
    UNC's tradition in kinesiology and physical education, the School has
    an eviable record in graduate placement.
