JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a highly qualified research scientist in the area of
medical robotics and computer assisted surgery. The successful candidate
must have a Ph.D. degree in a related technical area such as:
% Electrical Engineering
% Computer Science
% Biomedical Engineering
% Physics
% Civil/Mechanical Engineering
% Robotics
In addition, the candidate must possess research experience in one or
more of the following or related areas:
% Medical Imaging / Image Processing
% Computer Assisted Surgery (including Image Guided or Surgical
Navigation Systems)
% Surgical Simulation
% Medical Robotics
The successful candidate should be capable of independently initiating and
conducting world-class research. Responsibilities may include, but are not
limited to: technical leadership and contribution to new and ongoing projects;
publication in scholarly journals and conferences; writing grant proposals to
funding agencies; serving as principal investigator; supervising and providing
technical guidance to graduate students, undergraduate students and technical
staff.
A high level of self-motivation and desire to perform leading edge research are
essential for this position. In addition, the successful applicant should have
a proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and
spoken presentation.
CENTER DESCRIPTION
The Center for Orthopaedic Research is a research department of Shadyside
Hospital. The center's mission is to advance research, development, and
education in the field of computer assisted orthopaedic surgery. Aside from
its own resources and the clinical resources of Shadyside Hospital, the
center draws upon personnel and resources from Carnegie Mellon University.
These resources are drawn through the Center for Medical Robotics and
Computer Assisted Surgery (MRCAS), a joint effort of the Center for
Orthopaedic Research and CMUUs Robotics Institute, as well as through
the collaboration of other university departments.
