POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION: Assistant/Associate Professor in Biomechanics/Motor Control
DATE OF EMPLOYMENT: August, 1998
DUTIES
1. Conduct and supervise research in biomechanics that relates to current
issues in motor control and/or learning; a research focus on physical
rehabilitation preferred.
2. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biomechanics; teach
undergraduate courses as needed, such as anatomy; develop graduate
seminars in area of expertise.
3. Advise graduate students (M.S. and Ph.D.) who have a major research
interest in biomechanics as part of the Motor Behavior concentration of
the Kinesiology graduate program.
4. Develop proposals seeking external funding for research.
5. Develop already initiated ties with related areas on campus, such as
industrial and mechanical engineering, and in the community, such as with
rehabilitation clinics and hospitals.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Earned doctorate with emphasis in biomechanics.
2. Research interest in biomechanics that addresses issues related to
motor control and/or learning; preference will be given to those whose research
is in or applies to physical rehabilitation contexts.
3. Good human relations skills.
THE UNIVERSITY AND THE DEPARTMENT OF KINESIOLOGY
LSU is a research university that is rated as a Carnegie I institution. At
the undergraduate level, the Department offers a B.S. degree with several
concentration tracks (the majority of undergraduate majors are in
pre-physical/occupational therapy options). At the graduate level, the
Department offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees with concentrations in Motor
Behavior, Exercise Physiology, and Pedagogy.
The Motor Behavior Laboratory includes a large, newly renovated space
and an excellent core of equipment for conducting biomechanics research,
including a Peak Performance 3-D movement analysis system,
an AMTI force platform, eye movement recording equipment, EMG
equipment, and an array of IBM and Mac microcomputers and video equipment.
DEADLINE FOR RECEIVING APPLICATIONS
Applications received by February 1, 1998, will be given first
consideration, but all applications will be considered until the position
is filled.
