Department (BME) of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), supported by
The Whitaker Foundation Special Opportunities Grant, invites
applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or
Associate Professor level to begin as early as July, 1998. Applicants,
with an earned doctorate, are expected to have a strong commitment to
high quality undergraduate and graduate engineering education, develop
strong partnerships with the medical device/biotechnology industry, as
well as maintain an active and funded research program. Individuals
with expertise in applied physiology, biomedical instrumentation and
biosensors are encouraged to apply. Candidates with additional
expertise in biomedical imaging will be given strong preference.
WPI is an innovative technological university of engineering, science,
management, humanities, arts, and social science with an enrollment of
2700 undergraduates and 1000 part- and full-time graduate students.
WPI is located in the high-tech region of east-central Massachusetts in
Worcester County (pronounced "Woostah"). The department offers BS, MS,
Master of Engineering, and PhD degrees. A joint PhD program in
Biomedical Engineering and Medical Physics, an MD/PhD program, and
research collaborations also exist with the University of Massachusetts
Medical Center (2 miles from WPI). In addition, a BS/DVM program and
research collaborations are established with the Tufts University
School of Veterinary Medicine (12 miles from WPI).
