  • Hearing Loss and Jackhammer

    Dear Biomech-L Readers,

Following an incident my friends has been hearing a frustrating "hiss" noise
in a quiet areas such as sleeping time. The audiogram shows that his right
ear can not distinguish one of the high frequencies. The incident occurred
when he was sleeping in a room with closed doors and windows. At the same
time, the construction workers started using Jack-hammer to remove the old
asphalt from the roof of the same room.
Please share with us your insights on the following questions.

    1. Could the room with closed doors and windows resonate and intensify the
    noise created by the Jack-hammer?
    2. Could the noise by the Jack-hammer alone or in a situation described
above cause such a damage to hearing.

    Best Regards
    Rahman Davoodi
