    FACULTY POSITIONS IN BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING

School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems, Drexel
    University

The School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems at Drexel
University invites nominations and applications for tenure track faculty
positions in biomedical engineering starting September 1998. Candidates
with an earned doctoral degree and committed to conduct funded research, to
establish research facilities, to lead interdisciplinary research teams and
to network with medical schools and industry are invited to apply.
Successful candidates will also be expected to teach and develop curriculum
at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to supervise student projects
and research. Qualified applicants with engineering background and research
experience in the Biomedical Sensors, Biomechanics and Biomaterials areas
are particularly encouraged to apply. We seek candidates whose background
and interests are in the emerging areas of their fields and who can "cross
over" between disciplines. The appointment and tenure line will reside in
the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems.
Affiliation of faculty members with other departments at Drexel and partner
    medical colleges is highly encouraged.

Drexel University is a private urban university located in center city
Philadelphia and is recognized for its traditionally strong technological
focus and career-integrated education. The School of Biomedical Engineering
Science and Health Systems (formerly the Biomedical Engineering and Science
Institute founded in 1961) is a nationally recognized center for biomedical
engineering and science research and education. The School is launching a
new undergraduate program in biomedical engineering in Fall 1998.

The strength areas of the School include biomedical ultrasound, biomedical
imaging, biomedical systems and signal processing, biomechanics,
biomaterials, tissue and cellular engineering and cardiovascular systems.
New academic initiatives focus on biomedical optics and biomedical sensors,
human performance and neuroengineering, bioinformatics and computational
    biomedicine, and health systems technologies.

Metropolitan Philadelphia has one of the highest concentrations of medical
institutions, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry in the nation. The
School enjoys close working relationships with select medical universities
and institutes, health care institutions and industries in the region. The
School has recently formed an Academic Alliance with Thomas Jefferson
University, a prominent medical university located in close vicinity of the
Drexel campus to further develop joint research and educational programs. A
new initiative in Bioinformatics has been launched jointly with the Coriell
    Institute for Medical Research.

Qualified applicants are invited to send a curriculum vitae, statement of
teaching and research interests and a list of three references to:
