Please note the abstract deadline is 28th February

    CALL FOR PAPERS

    VI EMED SCIENTIFIC MEETING
    BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA

    August 8th to 12th 1998
    Princess Alexandra Hospital
    and Queensland Univeristy of Technology

The EMED SCIENTIFIC MEETING is open to every scientist and clinician
working in and interested in the field of pressure distribution analysis.
EMED is the abreviation for the German words Elektronisches Messystem zur
Erfassung von Druckeverteilungen which means 'electronic measuring device
for the recording of pressure distributions'. The meeting will consist of
seminars, hands-on workshops, scientific presentations and discussions.

    For the fifith time
    THE NOVEL AWARD
will be presented for the best scientific manuscripts in the field of
    dynamic pressure distribution analysis.

    The awards will be
    AU$10,000 for the first prize
    AU$3,000 for the second prize
    AU$1,000 for the third prize

    __________
    ABSTRACTS
    ----------------
Abstracts must be submitted by all those intending to present their work
at the meeting. Abstracts will be divided into the following sections
    although these are not exclusive.

    1. Technical Applications of dynamic pressure distribution
Covering topics such as industrial research, ergonomics
    and design

    2. Scientific studies of dynamic pressure distribution relevant to the
    medical field
    Studies answering medical questions

    3. Dynamic pressure measurement in footwear
This will mainly be in-shoe pressure measurement and related
    to footwear or orthoses

    4. 3D motion analysis, video, EMG and other measurements in
    conjunction with dynamic pressure measurement
Papers will describe the methodology and results of
    synchronised measurements

    5. Practical and routine use of dynamic pressure distribution in clinics
Here we invite clinicians to describe how and for what they are
using pressure distribution routinely in clinics. Examples of
    case studies can be shown.

    6. Work in Progress
This section will consist of incomplete work, pilot studies,
or intermediate results of long-term studies where the authors
would like feedback from the group.

    7. Research Proposals
Here short presentations will outline ideas for future research.
The aim of presenting in this section would either be to obtain
feedback and ideas from the group or to propose research which
could be taken up by members of the group.

    8. Other Research Themes

Abstracts for the VI EMED SCIENTIFIC MEETING will be published in
CLINICAL BIOMECHANICS subject to review. The following submission
    guidelines must be adhered to:

Abstracts should be one page single spacing on A4 with 2.5 cm left,
right, top and bottom margins. All text must be typed in 12-point
Times-Roman font. The title must be typed in bold capital letters (upper
case) and centred at the top of the page. Leave the next line empty and
then type the authors names in bold lower case letters. On the next line
print the affiliations and addresses of the authors in lower case, not in
bold. Leave the next line empty before typing the body of the abstract
which should contain six identifiable sections: Introduction, Methods,
Results, Discussion, Conclusions and References. For illustrations please
    only use line drawings.

Send two hardcopies of the abstract plus one copy in MS-WORD format on
3.5 inch disk to the address given at the end of this announcement before
28th February 1998. Alternatively, abstracts may be submitted by Email to
novelUK@novel.de with the abstract attached as an MS-WORD document. Only
attach one abstract per Email. No other format will be accepted.

    MANUSCRIPTS
    -------------------
Authors wishing to compete for the Novel Awards must submit both an
abstract and a manuscript. The winners of the Novel Awards will be
announced at the VI EMED SCIENTIFIC MEETING and it is a requirement that
one of the authors is present and have orally communicated their work at
the meeting in Brisbane. Please note however, that the oral presentation
is not judged as part of the award.

The manuscript for the Novel Awards should present opiginal work in the
area of pressure distribution measurement. This work should not have been
previously published or presented although prior abstract publication is
    permissable.

The manuscripts will be blind reviewed by an international panel of
judges comprising of experts in the field of pressure distribution
measurement. The judges reserve the right to reopen the competition, if
in their view, the submitted manuscripts are not of sufficient quality.

Four copies of the full length award paper (20 - 25 typewritten pages
including abstract, figures, tables and references) are required. Use the
author guidelines for the journal 'Clinical Biomechanics' (note this does
not imply acceptance of any submitted papers to this journal). To
facilitate blind review, please add a separate title page with the
authors names and affiliations removed. Please also ensure that the
authors names and affiliations do not appear on the following pages.
Papers in an incorrect format will be returned without review.

One copy of the paper should also be sent on a 3.5 inch floppy disk in
MS-WORD format. Do not send manuscripts by Email.

Award papers must be sent to the address given at the end of this
    announcement by May 30th 1998.

    MEETING SCHEDULE
    ----------------------------
The schedule for this meeting has been constructed so that it contains
three core days of scientific communications. However, half days have
been added to the beginning and the end of the meeting which offer
seminars and hands-on workshops aimed at educating users in the basic and
more advanced issues of dynamic pressure dustribution data collection and
analysis. This allows the experts to join the meeting for the core
presentations and gives those clinicians and scientists who are new to
the field the opportunity to learn more about it.

August 7th Early Bird's Gathering. Anyone already in Brisbane
attempting to beat the jet lag is welcome to join us for
    an informal evening

August 8th Afternoon seminars and workshops. There will be
three sessions, (1) basic theory of dynamic
    pressure distribution measurement, (2)
    computational methods in dynamic pressure
distribution analysis and (3) hands-on workshops

    Evening Welcome Reception

August 9th Scientific presentations and lunch

    Dinner

August 10th Social and outdoor activities, lunch and dinner

August 11th Scientific presentations and lunch

    Evening Banquet

August 12th Morning seminars and workshops. There will be
three sessions, (1) basic theory of dynamic
    pressure distribution measurement,
    (2) computational methods in dynamic pressure
distribution analysis and (3) hands-on workshops

Farewell Brunch for those attending morning
    seminars
