materials, the group brings together engineers, material scientists,
biochemists, anatomists, Veterinary surgeons and medical practitioners.
The main research themes are: (i) biomaterials and (ii) orthopaedic
    biomechanics.
The Centre chairs the working group on Surgical Implants as part the
Healthcare Consultative Committee. The Centre is also acting as the Irish
representative on the EU Concerted Action in Skeletal Implants, developing
policy to prioritise research topics in bioengineering. The BRC is located
in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

    Some current projects:
    - Synthetic bone grafts
    - Modeling of Bone as a composite material
    - Modelling contact between the surfaces in human joints
    - Simulation of human joints
    - Analysis of pores in Bone Cement
    - Analysis of the cement pedicles at the cement/bone interface
    - Damage models of cemented hip reconstructions
    - Damage accumulation in cemented hip replacements
    - Cracks along bimaterial interfaces
    - Tribilogy and materials for articulating surfaces
