Dear Biomch-L readers,
As you know some of the subscribers are interested in the improvement
of protection in different sports, industrial and car crash accidents.
So, I have the pleasure to present activity
INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH COMMITTEE ON BIOKINETICS OF IMPACTS
( IRCOBI )
on our Discussion Forum.
The International Research Committee on Biokinetics of Impacts was
founded in September 1971 at the international meeting the authors
of the program "Human Tolerance to Dynamic Impacts" in Lyon, France.
AIMS OF IRCOBI
The aims of IRCOBI are:
- to encourage studies on the transfer and dissipation of kinetic energy
in- and outside the human body,
- to approach the transport accidents problem,
- to improve the dissemination of information and the planning of cooperative
research in biomechanics of impacts.
In order to stay completely independent the council decided not to rely
on external economical sponsorships neither from governments nor from
the industry but to base all its activities on the fees paid by
the participants to the annual international meetings or conferences.
IRCOBI CONFERENCES
IRCOBI arrange an international conferences in Europe to review knowledge
on human tolerance to impact, as revealed by accident investigations,
experimental work and experience from current protective devices.
The annual conferences organized by IRCOBI, since 1973, with these aims
have really fulfilled a need as numerous European researchers have taken
this opportunity to present their works. IRCOBI conferences having proved
to be an appropriate frame to exchange information, researchers from other
countries ( USA, Canada, Australia and Japan ) have taken an interest
in joining these meetings regularly, which contributes to constantly widen
their scope.
The 1992 IRCOBI Conference will take the place in Verona ( Italy )
and hosted by the University of Verona, on September 9th - 11th.
IRCOBI PUBLICATIONS
The booklet reviews ( free) all the papers which have been presented during
the eighteen international IRCOBI conferences, from the very first held in
1973 to 1991 and proceedings of all conferences ( upon receipt of payment
of US$ 50 each copy ) are all available at the IRCOBI Secretariat.
