The Human Performance Laboratory at the Duke University Medical Center has
an opening for Ph.D. level individual.
Responsibilities: Assist with all aspects of research projects, including
experimental design, literature review, recruiting subjects, data
acquisition and analysis, and writing and presenting papers. Utilize
multi-camera, synchronized video systems, electromyography (EMG), and force
plates to monitor muscle activity, kinematics, and kinetic parameters for
various research projects. Additional responsibilities include computer
programming and coordinating the research activities of medical and
graduate students, as well as grant writing. Current research in the
laboratory is being carried out on shoulder biomechanics.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in Biomechanics, Biomedical Engineering,
Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a related field is required. Experience
in computer programming, word-processing, spreadsheet software, and
statistics is necessary. Additionally, experience in mechanical and
electrical instrumentation is desired.
Facility/Equipment: The brand new Human Performance Laboratory at Duke is
under the Department of Surgery in the Division of Orthopaedics and Sports
Medicine. The laboratory is equipped with a four camera Motion Analysis
system, a Noraxon Telemyo sixteen channel EMG telemetry system, two AMTI
force plates, and a BIODEX Isokinetic System.
