Children's Hospital and Health Center announces an exceptional opportunity
for a full-time Biomechanical Engineer to participate in work at three
collaborating laboratories in San Diego, California. The labs include a
new Orthopaedic Biomechanics Testing Laboratory being developed at
Children's, the Motion Analysis Laboratory at Children's, and the Joint
Mechanics Laboratory of the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation. The
engineer will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and utilizing
instrumentation and software for laboratory measurements, with principle
emphasis at the Orthopaedic Biomechanics Testing Lab and Joint Mechanics
Lab. The specific responsibilities will include the design, development,
and maintenance of equipment, the design and programming of data collection
and analysis software, and other engineering analyses for laboratory
projects. This position is the first line of technical support for other
staff, as well as an intermediary to management and between sites.
The position requires training in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical
Engineering, or a related field. Candidates should have at least a
Master's degree, or a Bachelor's degree with significant experience.
Qualifications should include knowledge and skills with computer systems
and programming, and experience in biomechanics research, especially joint
kinematics and mechanical testing. Excellent teaching, communication and
problem solving skills are also highly desired.
