  • Low mass muscle vibrators

    BIOMCH-L:

I am working with a doctoral student who is interesting in replicating some of the sense of effort research and is searching for a device to vibrate muscles of the lower extremity. I have read some of this research but am inexperienced in the equipment used to vibrate the musculature. Here are my questions:
    1. Is muscle vibration similar to muscle stimulation? We are aware of the stimulation devices used by our athletic trainers for rehabilitative purposes. Does stimulation yield effects that are similar to vibration?
    2. Has anyone used a commercially available muscle vibration device that is relatively lightweight. Our ultimate application would necessitate that the vibrator be secured to the shank during locomotion.

Any assistance you can provide would be helpful. I will post a summary of responses. Thank you.

    Peter
