Position Announcement: Motion Analysis Laboratory Physical Therapist
The Motion Analysis Laboratory (MAL) at Children’s Hospital - San Diego
announces an exciting opportunity for a full-time Physical Therapist.
Children's Hospital and Health Center in San Diego, California, is the
second largest pediatric center on the West Coast, and has working
collaborations with numerous other institutions in health care, higher
education, government, and industry. The MAL has recently moved into a new
and expanded facility which provides increased opportunities for clinical
service, education, and musculoskeletal research. This position offers an
exceptional opportunity for a full-time Physical Therapist to have an
active role in the development and expansion of the department's programs.
The therapist will have responsibilities in all of the laboratory's major
areas of activity, including:
Clinical services: reviews medical records; examines patients prior to
studies; performs data collection, fine-wire electromyography, data
interpretation, and writing of patient reports.
Education: coordinates courses; develops lectures; teaches staff,
residents, fellows, and other physical therapists, on a local, national, or
international level.
Research: writes, or assists in writing, grants, papers, and protocols;
coordinates studies; performs data collection and interpretation; presents
results at professional meetings.
The position is a full-time, 40 hour per week position in the MAL.
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Graduate of a school of Physical Therapy accredited by the APTA.
- Licensed in Physical Therapy by the State of California, or accepted for
licensure within 6 months of date of employment.
- Licensed in Kinesiological Electromyography by the State of California,
or eligible for and motivated in pursuing licensure.
- Two years experience in a clinical setting.
Preferred qualifications include: Master’s degree; working knowledge of
normal and pathological gait patterns, computerized motion analysis, and
biomechanics fundamentals; teaching experience; research experience.
The person filling this position will work closely with the other MAL
staff, including the laboratory's Medical Directors, David H. Sutherland,
M.D. and Hank Chambers, M.D.
