    UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH
    SCHOOL OF HEALTH AND
    REHABILITATION SCIENCES

    ANNOUNCES

    RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS
    in
Rehabilitation Science with special emphasis on
    Disability Studies

Fellowships are available in an innovative, multidisciplinary program in
health and rehabilitation sciences, funded by a grant from the National
Institute for Disability and Rehabilitation Research. The program
    requires
completion of a challenging set of didactic instruction, clinical
exposures, community interaction, and research experiences.

This program focuses broadly on rehabilitation sciences, including the
    area
of disability studies. The purpose of this program is to increase the
number of qualified researchers, particularly individuals with
disabilities, in the rehabilitation sciences. The program encompasses
study and research over a spectrum of scientific, technical,
    psychosocial,
physical, physiological, cultural, ethical, political, economic and
    clinical issues.

Research Fellowships are available for 3 research associates (2 years)
    and
1 postdoctoral fellow (1 year), beginning Fall 1998. Postdoctoral
    Fellows
receive an annual salary of $24,590. Research Associates receive a
    stipend
of $15,400, health insurance, and 90% of 6 credits per semester of
    tuition.

    Requirements

Must be a United States citizen or have permanent resident status.

Research Associates must have a Masters degree; the ability, either
demonstrated or potential, to do applied technical research; basic
    science
or clinical research experience (helpful, but not necessary); exposure
    or
experience in the rehabilitation field. The predoctoral program is
targeted for individuals who wish to pursue a Ph.D. degree in
    Rehabilitation Sciences.

Postdoctoral Fellows will be selected based on their academic
    background,
potential for research, potential dedication to rehabilitation, and
    future
career plans. In addition to an analytical background, a candidate must
possess some research knowledge of biology, physiology, or neuroscience.
Besides research experience, these fellows will be required to help
    teach
sections of the core departmental courses, and will interact with
    clinicians and consumer advocacy groups.

Deadline for application is May 1, 1998
