  • Summary of Simulation of motion

Many thanks to all who replied to my posting.
    My original posting was:

    Hi all,

we are planning a project to simulate the motion of horses.
Therefore I search for biomechanical modeling software to develop a
musculoskeletal model of a horse. I will post a summary of all
    replies.

    Many thanks in advance

    Christian Peham

And this is the summary of the replies.

    Hi Christian,

I saw that you are looking for software dealing with analysing motion.
I know were you can find what you need.

    Go to: http://www.simi.net

There you will find everything you need and the software is very very
good. I have made some experiences with it and it was amazing how
exact and reliable the program was.

    yours sincerely

    Dear Christian:

You might be interested in SIMM and the Dynamics Pipeline. These
software packages are used in over 50 major biomechanics labs around
the world to simulate human and animal motions. SIMM can definitely
be used to model the horse. In fact, I believe the group at
University of California, Davis, has begun development of the model
of the horse. You can review models being developed with SIMM in our
    website SIMM Image Gallery at
    http://www.musculographics.com/gallery.htm/

Please feel free to contact me with further questions.

    With best regards,
    Lydgia

I have done some 2-D kinematic analyses of the movement of the horse's
and rider's backs (sagittal plane), and would be interested in
learning more. I am involved in hippotherapy (physical therapys using
the movement of the horse to treat individuals with a wide variety of
movement disorders). My future endeavor may include doing some
modeling of the horse and rider's backs. What sort of modeling are
you interested in? I would like to hear more! Victoria

    Hello Christian

    >From my understanding, there are two major packages available on
the market for animation - the first is Musculographics SIMM software,
and the second is 3D Studio Max, which is a complete modelling
package. Manyu of our animation customer use 3D Max.

    Hi!
Right now I'm using a musculoskeletal modeling software package
    called
SIMM (Software for Interactive musculoskeletal modeling) put out by
Musculographics. It is a useful tool for simulating motion and
determining muscle forces and joint moments, etc. Hope that helps.

    Hi Christian,

I cannot answer your question directly, but there was a lecture
presented at the pre-ESB meeting in Montlignon in 1993 entitled

"Persival" a horse simulator (an original example of
    experimental-numerial simulation

    T. Dronak (1), N. Richard (2), P. Galloux (3), and M Leard (2)
    (1) AFASEC/PERSIVAL, Allee de Jardy, 60631 Chantilly
    (2) LAII, Avenue du Recteur Pineau, 86000 Poitiers
    (3) ENE, Bureau de recherches, Terrefort, 49499 Saumur

The paper seems to be at least partly base on the thesis of
Monsieur Richard "Edude et modelisation des allures equestres,
application a la commande d'un simulateur equestre" from the
    Universite de Poitiers (1993)

May be they are willing to share their know-how...

    Greetings,
