    OPEN POSITION:
The Motion Analysis Laboratory (MAL), at the Shriners Hospitals for
Children, Erie PA, USA, is pleased to announce an immediate opening for a
full-time, licensed Physical Therapist. Parallel programs in clinical and
research Biomechanics will offer an attractive blend of professional
    activities within the MAL.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
This core member of the MAL team will provide clinical support by
performing musculoskeletal examinations, fine-wire EMG analyses, and by
taking part in patient care conferences. Technical duties will include
cross-training in equipment calibration, biomechanical data collection,
reduction and interpretation, and new protocol development. The Therapist
will act as clinical liaison for the MAL within the community, and in
professional societies. Clinical use for the MAL will focus initially on
the restoration of gait in children with neuromuscular and skeletal
disease. Basic and applied research programs augment gait analyses and
    more general human movement protocols.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate or Master's degree in
Physical Therapy with current or potential licensure in Pennsylvania; a
Master's degree in Biomechanics or related field; and certification in
fine-wire EMG analyses. Experience with instrumented gait analysis is
needed, and an interest in general Biomechanics of human movement will
facilitate new protocol development. Though not required, familiarity with
Vicon motion capture systems, calculus, and vector algebra are desirable.

    FACILITIES:
The existing Motion Analysis Laboratory was built in the Fall of 1997, and
will be moved to a new wing of this orthopedic hospital early in 1999.
Equipment includes a six-camera Vicon 370 system, two moveable AMTI force
plates, surface and fine-wire EMG instrumentation (Motion Lab Systems), a
Panasonic S-VHS observational video system, and several networked
laboratory computers. The city of Erie is located in the northwest corner
of Pennsylvania, along the shores of Lake Erie, and is adjacent to rolling,
tree covered hills. Several universities and medical centers offer
collaboration locally, and metropolitan areas in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and
Buffalo are within a comfortable two hour drive.

    APPLICATION:
Please send your curriculum vitae and a brief statement of your interests
to Dr. Buczek at the address below. Electronic copies will be accepted
initially, but please also send originals through the mail. (EOE/m/f/v/h,
Shriners Hospitals for Children maintains a drug free workplace.)

    Frank L. Buczek, Jr., Ph.D.
    Director, Motion Analysis Laboratory
