Development Engineer
To carry out the design and development of new orthopaedic, soft tissue products, and their respective instrumentation, or the upgrade of an existing product as required by the Research and Development manager.
Prepare project plans and development costs.
Ensure that the developed products meet the requirement specification, in the agreed time scale, as per the project plan, development cost, as well as achieving a product that meets the production cost target.
To produce 3D models or layouts using the computer CAD system, (Solidworks) create detail drawings and assembly drawings along with parts lists, as required by the design.
Maintain the project file / development records in accordance with the development procedure and relevant national/international standards.
Hold, chair and minute regular project progress meetings during the development.
Specify develop, and carry out biomechanical tests on the products to ensure that they meet the relevant standards and write the test report.
Liaison with surgeons, suppliers and subcontractors.
To for ensuring all drawings are fully checked approved and signed prior to issue.
Inter department liaison within Surgicraft.
To monitor the performance of subordinates, in general terms such as workmanship standard, overall work rate, personal development, motivation and discipline.
Other
Experience in developing medical products would be a distinct advantage (not necessarily implants). Familiarity with the following - CE marking, Risk Analysis, Project planning, Essential Requirements (an EEC medical regulatory document).
The person employed will have to attend operations i.e. they must not be squeamish.
Qualifications: minimum requirement HND, prefer BSc or equivalent and at least 5 years design experience.
