  • Subscapular Pain - Scapular Crepitation

    Hello all,

I am a 44-year-old court reporter. I have been experiencing subscapular pain in the T-3/T-4 area of my upper back for years. My thought: The little finger on my right hand is considerably shorter than the first three. To get my fingers to line up in a straight line to properly punch the keys on my shorthand machine, I have to lift my elbow (adduct it) approximately 30 degrees from vertical away from the side of my body. This "twists" my right hand downward to the right, to make my little finger even with the other three. There are times when the little finger has to reach quite far to the right to strike a key, while the other fingers also strike keys simultaneously.

The main result has been pain and muscle spasm between the scapula and spine region. Also, when I rotate my shoulder backward, starting the lift in front and dropping down in back, I have extreme "crunching" or crepitation between my scapula and some underlying structure(s).

Doctors have prescribed muscle relaxants, anti-inflammatories, heat. Never goes away.

I would be most grateful for any information on this problem.

    Best regards,
    Leslie Foldy
