    4th CAOS-SYMPOSIUM
    Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery
    March 17-19, 1999
    Davos, Switzerland

    The CAOS-Symposium is the premier international forum on the
    use of a new breed of computer based tools in orthopaedic surgery.
    CAOS '99 will be held in Davos, Switzerland. It will continue the
    tradition of multi-speciality, interdisciplinary symposia presenting
    the most recent innovations in this rapidly evolving field. CAOS is
    for physicians, surgeons, health care providers, researchers, entre-
    preneurs, educators, and investors interested in these computer based
    technologies.
    The objectives of the symposium are to present the most current
    thinking on the impact of computer assisted surgical techniques on
    the daily clinical and surgical routine, to educate surgeons in the
    use of these techniques, and to promote a new partnership between
    surgeons and technologists as a necessary basis for the successful
    hospital integration of computer assisted surgery systems.
    The format at the meeting will consist of invited lectures presented
    by an internationally recognized faculty as well as presentations of
    submitted papers reviewed by a distinguished program committee.
    It will provide ample opportunity for personal interaction with
    faculty and other symposium participants and will be an unique educa-
    tional experience for practicing orthopaedic surgeons.

    MAURICE E. MUELLER AWARD
    In order to promote research in this emerging area the Maurice E.
    Mueller Award for Excellence in Computer Assisted Surgery will be given.
    A board of referees will search for individuals whose contribution
    fostered excellence in Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery to the
    present. The nominee/s should be prepared to come to Davos at the time
    of the meeting to receive the award.

    SOCIAL PROGRAM
    The organizers would like to invite the CAOS participants and accom-
    panying persons to an informal welcome reception on Wednesday, March 17,
    from 19:00 to 21:00 held in the CAOS venue, at the Convention Center
    Davos. This will be the first opportunity to register for the symposium.
    The Conference Banquet will be on Thursday, March 18 in the unique and
    stimulating atmosphere of a mountain restaurant at an altitude of 2483m
    (8146ft.).

    POST SYMPOSIUM PROGRAM
    At this time of the year CAOS participants will have the excellent
    opportunity to stay for a skiing weekend. The Davos/Klosters region is
    one of the largest resorts in Switzerland. The ski areas are: Pischa,
    Jakobshorn, Rinerhorn, Schatzalp/Strela, Parsenn, Gotschna, Madrisa
    providing easy access to five spectacular skiing areas covering every
    degree of difficulty: Approx. 30% beginner, 40% intermediate, 30% expert
    runs.

    INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION
    The CAOS-Symposium is known as a premier interactive forum on ortho-
    paedic surgery and interactive computer based technologies. Consequent-
    ly, an industrial exhibition is organized which will show demonstrate
    hands-on cutting-edge technology for surgical planning, simulation, exe-
    cution, and documentation, covering a wide range of recent developments
    in this area. The exhibits will be available to the participants for the
    whole duration of the conference.
