Dear Biomch-L readers,
Having read various preparatory items on HumBio-L about the meeting below,
it's a pleasure to cross-post today's announcement onto Biomch-L; hopefully,
some of us will have a chance to attend.

Biological Anthropology "State-of-the-Science"
Summer Institute June 7-12, 1993
International Institute for Human Evolutionary Research
The George Washington University, Virginia Campus
Biological anthropology is a diverse field of scientific inquiry,
requiring of its practitioners broad research and instructional
expertise. Keeping abreast of the latest developments in the various
subdisciplines has become more and more challenging as new journals
and new professional associations have proliferated. The Summer
Institute will be a series of workshops intended for all professionals
who want to be brought up to date on areas which are not necessarily
their areas of expertise. The experience will be useful to teachers
and researchers alike.
The first Biological Anthropology "State-of-the-Science" Summer
Institute will cover the most active subdisciplines within the field,
chosen on the basis of the recent review by Wienker and Bennett (1992
Amer. J. Phys. Anthrop. 87:383-393). It will be held at the new
International Institute for Human Evolutionary Research June 7-12,
1993. Summer Institutes will be held annually, covering each year the
subdisciplines that are most active in research and teaching, areas in
which many practitioners feel they have deficiencies, and areas of
growing importance in the field. Leading researchers will teach each
of the topics during the week-long sessions. Participants will
receive a book of readings for the course. Optional evening workshops
will also be offered to participants on such topics as statistics in
biological anthropology, new computer communications, and new
instructional techniques.
