    Graduate Assistantships
    Soft Tissue Injury and Repair
    Biomechanics/Biological Engineering
    Soft Tissue Research Center
    The University of Georgia

The Soft Tissue Research Center at The University of Georgia is
seeking individuals interested in graduate research. Outstanding students from the engineering,
physical, applied, and biological sciences are encouraged to apply. Students may enroll in an
interdisciplinary graduate program linked with the Soft Tissue Center (www.bae.uga.edu/stc).
The Center consists of researchers from biological engineering, veterinary medicine,
biochemistry, sports medicine and animal science. The diversity of this group brings a truly
multifaceted approach to soft tissue injury and repair research. Our graduate program includes
advanced course work in engineering and biological sciences, monthly colloquia and
instructional mentoring. Graduate stipends are awarded on a competitive basis.

Some current objectives of the biomechanics laboratory are to examine:
    - The link between exercise and disuse with alteration of tendon/bone formation,
    - The biomechanical changes of tendon/bone due to diet, environment and genetics, and
    - The link between cell signaling, growth factors and biomechanical function.

    Example project titles:
    - Basic mechanism of tendon physiology and repair
    - Biomechanical properties of tendon experimentally infected with reovirus
    - An avian modeling approach for analyzing bone loss due to disuse
    - Experimental and clinical studies of skeletal fixators
