    Position Announcement: Biomechanics

    Rank: Assistant Professor, tenure track. Appointment begins September 16,
    1999.
    The best qualified candidate with expertise in biomechanics will be
    considered.
    Qualifications and responsibilities: This position fills important existing
    undergraduate and graduate instructional needs in biomechanics, and
    contributes
    to the broader focuses of the department which includes preventive and
    rehabilitative medicine. Candidates who can provide clinical expertise to
    majors seeking careers in the health sciences are especially encouraged to
    apply.

    Earned doctoral degree with specialization in biomechanics. Postdoctoral
    experience preferred. The appointee will be expected to have expertise to
    teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biomechanics. The development
    of a strong independent research program that is competitive for extramural
    funding
    is expected. The department is seeking a biomechanist with a mechanics and/or
    bioengineering background with training and expertise in orthopedics,
    rehabilitation, ergonomics/human factors, and/or modeling. Other
    responsibilities include supervision of student research, including advising
    masterís theses and doctoral dissertations, academic counseling of
    undergraduate and graduate students, service on faculty committees, and other
    duties as appropriate.

    General Information: The Department of Exercise and Movement Science (EMS)
    offers a cross-disciplinary undergraduate degree which emphasizes the
    development of students interested in pursuing medicine and health science
    careers. The degree program consists of courses in exercise science with
    supporting course work in the biological, and physical sciences. Graduates in
    EMS seek positions in medicine, physical therapy, nursing, dentistry and other
    health sciences, and research/teaching at the university level.
