Again, Friends and Colleagues:
I'm sorry if my previous note caused any confusion. Apparently,
the two independent thoughts I tried to convey are being
misconstrued, for whatever reason. Let me reiterate ...
FROM MY ORIGINAL POSTING:
************************************************** *****************
PARAGRAPH #1:
Regarding Ton's request to terminate the discussion on "spinal
manipulation", I would prefer that the discussion be allowed to
continue; however, I would like to echo the thoughts expressed
by Julie Martin ... can we limit the discourse to a professional
exchange of views--and cut the mud slinging. Thanks to Ton and
his crew (and to the majority of the subscribers) this is one of
the better lists on the 'net. Let's keep it that way.
PARAGRAPH #2:
By the way, after ten years, 4D VIDEO is doing fine. How about
you Gideon--how's the business going? Anyone else want to tell
us how their business is doing? Just kidding :-) .
************************************************** ***************
According to Webster:
1) PARAGRAPH:
"A (DISTINCT) portion of written or printed matter dealing with
a particular idea." (The caps. are mine.)
2) DISTINCT:
"Distinguished as not being the same; not identical; separate."
My first paragraph was intended as a serious comment pertaining
to the recent discussion on "spinal manipulation".
My second (DISTINCT) paragraph was intended as a light-hearted
observation, and I tried to make that perfectly clear ("Just
kidding :-)"). Apparently, my attempt to joke about the
situation hit a raw nerve.
If the nature of the joke was misunderstood, let try to clarify
the point I was trying to make. It was my opinion that a small,
but honest mistake by someone trying to sell a motion capture
system was being turned into a full-blown marketing opportunity,
when a simple "just to clarify ... it's not us" would have been
quite sufficient. We all know the limitations placed on vendors
subscribing to this list, and some try to push the limits when
the opportunity arises. Personally, I find that humorous, but
not particularly troublesome. Others, including the list
administrators, may have another view.
If I offended ANYONE, my apologies. Now, let the mud slinging
rest where it may!
Again, best wishes to everyone for the holidays,
Jim WALTON
Chairman-Elect, SPIE Working Group on High-Speed Photography,
Videography and Photonics
