VIIth INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON COMPUTER SIMULATION IN BIOMECHANICS
August 5-7, 1999, Calgary, Canada
First Announcement and Call for Papers
The VIIth International Symposium on Computer Simulation in
Biomechanics (ISCSB-VII) will be held at The University of Calgary,
Calgary, Canada, from the 5th to the 7th of August 1999. This Symposium,
organized by the ISB Technical Group on Computer Simulation (TGCS), is
a satellite event of the XVIIth Congress of the International Society
of Biomechanics (ISB) which takes place at the Calgary Convention
Centre, August 8-13, 1997.
VENUE
-----
The conference site is the Physical Education Complex, home of the
Faculty of Kinesiology of the University of Calgary. Meals and
accomodation will be provided on-site and are included in the
registration fee. The conference site has excellent meeting rooms,
computer facilities as well as extensive recreation facilities:
skating oval, fitness center, racket courts etc. The accomodation at
the student residences is within several minutes walking distance from
the meeting site.
SCOPE
-----
The symposium will be a scientific and technical meeting for
investigators and students in all areas of computer simulation in
biomechanics, especially: human movement, control, and robotics related
to biomechanics. The meeting will include sessions on the following
topics:
* Numerical methods
* Musculoskeletal modeling
* Applications in sport
* Applications in motor control
* Clinical and ergonomics applications
* Simulation of biomechanical signal processing
Papers on other topics will also be considered. Two keynote lectures
will be given on applications of computer simulation in computer
graphics and in adaptive control of robots.
SYMPOSIUM FORMAT
----------------
Each paper will be presented for 10 minutes, followed by 5 minutes of
discussion. As has been the tradition for these symposia, each presenter
will then have the opportunity to give an interactive demonstration for
one hour during the following demonstration session / coffee break.
When not in use for scheduled demonstrations, computers will be
accessible to foster informal exchange of information between
participants. Meals and evening activities are an important part of
the symposium. Only 32 papers will be accepted for presentation. Papers
accompanied by a computer demonstration will be preferred.
ANDRZEJ KOMOR AWARD
-------------------
To be eligible for this award, the work presented must be part of a
Master's or Doctoral degree program for the first author of the paper.
The award will be presented during the banquet and will include a
cheque for $500 (US).

REGISTRATION AND SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS
----------------------------------------
The registration fee is $300 (U.S. dollars) for ISB members and $325
for others. The fee includes a symposium kit, proceedings book, coffee
and refreshments during the breaks, accommodation fee for two nights
(August 5 and 6), breakfasts, lunches, dinner, symposium banquet, and
welcome reception. The accompanying person fee is $200. Accomodation
before and after the symposium can be requested for a fee of $40 per
night.
Abstracts should be four pages in length, printable within a 9" x 6.5"
(228.5 x 165 mm) rectangle. Topic and quality of the paper will be
criteria for acceptance, and preference will be given to presentations
that will be accompanied by a computer demonstration. Abstracts may be
submitted by E-mail to bogert@bme.ri.ccf.org. PDF format is preferred,
but also accepted are FrameMaker, Word, and Wordperfect. Abstracts
will be included in the proceeedings, and also posted on the symposium
web site.
Deadline for submission of abstracts is March 15th, 1999.
Registration and abstract submission forms will be distributed with
the second announcement in January 1999.
