Positions Announcement
Positions: Three (3) full time tenure-track positions in the Division of
Exercise Science. Primary consideration given to candidates who demonstrate
teaching and research abilities in one of the following areas: 1)
cardiovascular physiology, 2) muscle/neural physiology, and 3)
wellness/health promotions/epidemiology. Secondary consideration to
candidates with expertise in physiology of aging, sports nutrition,
biomechanics, athletic training, and/or research and statistics.
Rank: Assistant/Associate
Qualifications: 1) Earned doctorate in exercise science or related field.
2) Evidence of teaching experience within the discipline. 3) Publication
record commensurate with rank and experience. 4) Grant record commensurate
with rank and experience. 5) Commitment to working in a multi-cultural
environment.
Responsibilities: 1) Teach undergraduate and graduate classes in exercise
science and/or wellness programs. 2) Conduct and publish scholarly
research. 3) Advise undergraduate and graduate students. 4) Direct theses
and dissertations. 5) Pursue external funding.
Program: The department offers the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Exercise
Science and the M.S. in Wellness.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Starting Date: August 1999 or when filled.

Oxford and Ole Miss
The Community:
Located in the rolling hills of North Mississippi, Oxford is about 75 miles
southeast of Memphis and 160 miles north of Jackson, via Interstate 55 and
State Highway 6. The college town dates back to 1836 and was named for the
English university.
Oxford is well known for its charming downtown square as well as its modern
mall offering unique shopping experiences. Residents have access to private
and public art galleries and museums, regular theatre productions, symphony
presentations and choral recitals, in addition to having abundant outdoor
recreational opportunities right in the community.
The University of Mississippi:
Chartered in 1844 and opened in 1848, The University of Mississippi laid the
foundation for public higher education in the state. For 23 years, it was
Mississippi's only public institution of higher learning. For 110 years it
was the state's only comprehensive university.
Know affectionately as Ole Miss, Mississippi's flagship university
established the fourth state-supported law school in the nation (1854) and
was one of the first in the nation to offer engineering education (1882) and
the first to hire a female faculty member (1885).
Ole Miss established the first College of Liberal Arts, School of Law,
School of Engineering, Graduate School, School of Nursing, and accredited
bachelor's and master's of accountancy programs in the state. It has the
only School of Medicine, School of Pharmacy, School of Dentistry, and School
of Health Related Professions in Mississippi.
In all, more than 100 programs of study are offered through the University's
one college and 11 schools. The academic excellence of these programs is
best seen in the fact that 23 of Mississippi's 28 Rhodes Scholars have come
from Ole Miss, including the state's first African-American honoree. Only
six public universities in the nation have produced more.
In addition, the University is nationally recognized for its research
efforts that include the federally funded Jamie Whitten National Center for
Physical Acoustics, and the National Center for the Development of Natural
Products, the National Food Service Management Institute, and the Minerals
Technology Center.
