1999 International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition
NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE
NOVEMBER 14-19, 1999
The Bioengineering Division of the American Society of Mechanical
Engineers would like you to participate in the 1999 IMECE. The highlight
topic for the meeting is "Engineering Innovations for Increased
Productivity". Original abstracts in all areas of bioengineering are
solicited for the conference. In addition, special sessions are planned
on such topics as:

NOTE that sessions for Bio Heat/Mass transfer have an earlier deadline
of January 29, 1999. For detailed instructions on abstracts for these

The conference will be held at the Opryland Hotel Convention Center in
Nashville, Tennessee. The Opryland is itself a spectacular site to see,
with dining, entertainment, and shopping as well as attractions such as
the Grand Ole Opry, General Jackson Showboat, and Springhouse Golf Club
all on-site.

STUDENT PAPER COMPETITION
1999 International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition

NOVEMBER 14-19, 1999
The Bioengineering Division of the American Society of Mechanical
Engineers announces its Annual Student Paper Competition for the 1999
IMECE.
ELIGIBILITY
Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to submit papers and
be considered for the student paper competition. Awards will be made at
the Undergraduate, Masters, and Doctoral levels. Graduate students
competing must not have completed the defense of their dissertation
prior to abstract submission. Competition papers are not to be
simultaneously submitted in response to the general Call for Papers.
PAPER TOPICS
Wide latitude is allowed in the topic of the student’s paper. Examples
of appropriate papers include, but are not limited to: the design or
evaluation of a medical device, the development of new instrumentation
for conducting experiments or making physiological measurements,
experimental research, and mathematical models. Survey papers will not
be considered.
HOW to SUBMIT a PAPER
To submit a paper for competition, you should prepare an abstract
following that for the regular scientific sessions. Make special note
in the "Green Form" (ASME Form 1903) that you mail along with your
abstract of your desire to be considered for the Undergraduate, Masters,
or Doctoral level competition.
NOTIFICATION
You will be notified in June if your paper will be part of the
competition. Student papers not accepted for the competition may be
considered for presentation in the regular sessions.
JUDGING
Selection of the best student papers will be made following the oral
presentation. The judges will select the winning papers based upon the
content of the work performed, the organization and clarity of the
presentation, and the ability to answer questions about the work.
Judging will be performed by senior investigators selected by the Honors
Committee of the Bioengineering Division.
