paired and unpaired t-test

Dear biomch-lers:

I wonder if anybody comes across paired Student's t-test and unpaired
two-tailed Student's t-test. The paired Student's t-test is used to
determine the significance in the BMD(bone mineral density) between
unicortical and bicortical screws. The unpaired two tailed Student's
t-test is to differentiate the unicortical success and failure groups.

I could not get any info how these two tests are performed. Is a
software needed? Are these tests can be done on the introns machine?
I hope I could be adviced on this matter.
