CASE studentships

Two EPSRC sponsored PhD studentships are currently available in our
department, which are also supported by additional CASE stipends
supplied by two main NHS Hospital trusts:
1) to identify new structural markers for breast cancer; this work will
include studies of collagen and inorganic deposit structures and a
significant amount of experimental work will be undertaken at the UK's
national Synchrotron Source, Daresbury, Warrington. Experience in
diffraction techniques will be advantageous. (ref: BCR-KDR)
2) to examine the effects of ageing on human bone tissue by mechanical,
physical and structural characterisation methods. Experience in
materials testing or tissue mechanics will be advantageous. (ref:
ABR-PNZ)
Applicants must possess a good honours degree in physical
sciences/engineering or closely related subjects.
Starting date 1st April, or till the positions are filled.
