Following the succesful conference of the International Shoulder Group in
1996 in Delft, our second official meeting will be held as a satellite
meeting of the International Society of Biomechanics. The meeting will be
held at the University of Calgary.
Aim
The conference aims at the stimulation of interaction in the area of upper
extremity research, and especially the shoulder joint. We strive at the
interaction between fundamental and applied research, but also between
those who are active as researchers and those who intend to apply new
research in their clinical or ergonomic practice.
Comparable to the first conference in 1996 we hope to stimulate the
interaction between those active in the fields of ergonomics,
rehabilitation, orthopedics, neurology or sports. These aims are of course
reflected in the possible topics of the conference.

Musculoskeletal modelling: development and applications
Mechanical and physiological load in working conditions.
Mechanical and physiological load in rehabilitation.
Mechanical and physiological load in sports.
Clinical outcome studies.
Repetitive strain injury.
Stiffness and stability
Imaging techniques
Muscle function and fatigue
(Endo)prosthesis design
Bone remodelling
Motion recording
Anatomy and Morphology
Registration
The registration fee for the conference is CD$300,00 for ISB members and
CD$320,00 for non-members, if registered before June 1, 1999.

Presentations
Scientific and application papers are invited for oral presentation. Those
who would like to present should submit an abstract with a maximum length of
500 words to the scientific committee. The address is given below. Deadline
for submission is March 1, 1999. Of course, all abstracts are subject to
review by the scientific program committee. Abstracts can be submitted in
electronic and in written form. They should be sent to the scientific
committee (address below).
Notification of acceptance will follow before May 1, 1999.
We intend to publish Congress Proceedings. This implies that all authors are
requested to submit short papers with a maximum length of six pages A-4 (12
point Times, 1.5 spaced). Deadline for these papers is September 1, 1999.
These short papers will go through a (preferably interactive) peer review
process.
