Dear Colleagues: Please post the following announcement.

    Biomedical Engineering/Electrical Engineering

    Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago/Northwestern University

    Organization:Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago/ Northwestern

    Location: Chicago, Illinois/Evanston, Illinois

    Deadline: August 31, 1999

We seek a postdoctoral research associate to work on experimental and
computer modeling of EMG signals with the goal of improving the control
of artificial limbs. These studies will be performed in the Sensory
Motor Performance Program (SMPP); a multidisciplinary research
laboratory located in the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and
    in the Northwestern University Computational
Electromagnetics Laboratory based in Evanston Illinois.

Applicants should have a doctoral degree in biomedical engineering,
electrical engineering or a related engineering discipline, and a
strong background in mathematical modeling and signal analysis. An
interest in and familiarity with basic neurophysiology is also helpful.
The planned research involves developing and validating computer
models of EMG signal propagation in muscles within animal and human
limbs. The models will be validated with experimental data. The
models will then be used to optimize myoelectric signal
isolation/identification for implementation of novel myoelectric
    prosthesis control paradigms.

The applicant will have the opportunity to participate in animal
experiments and human experiments in addition to learning computational
electromagnetics methods. The applicant has the possibility to get
involved in prosthetics research and clinical exposure is also
available. Finally, the applicant will be able to benefit from
mentorship of a diverse research team including: Todd Kuiken, MD., PhD,
    a physician-scientist and biomedical engineer; Allen Taflove, Ph.D., a
leader in the field of computational electromagnetics; and Jules
Dewald, Ph.D., PT, a motor control neuroscientist and clinician.

Applicants should send a letter, curriculum vitae, the names, addresses
and email addresses of at least three references to:

    Todd Kuiken, MD, PhD

Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Rm 1124

345 East Superior St, Chicago, Illinois, 60611.

The starting date for the position is negotiable.
Women and candidates from underrepresented minority groups are
encouraged to apply. The RIC is an Affirmative Action/Equal
Opportunity Employer. Hiring is contingent upon eligibility to work in
    the United States.
