Re: SICOT Global Events Database
Dear Colleagues
As you may know, the International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and
Traumatology (SICOT) is an educational association devoted to the
advancement of orthopaedic care through training programmes, meetings,
congresses and sponsorship programmes, as well as the bi-monthly
publication of the Journal of International Orthopaedics. We pride
ourselves in being an influential body and represent more than 3,000
specialised surgeons throughout the world.
Until now, our website (www.sicot.org) has served as a basic
introduction to who we are and what we do as a society. But now we are
ready to take it to another level. We are working to transform our
website into a powerful interactive tool that will provide the
orthopaedic industry with access to information about upcoming events
and educational activities. Not only will this increased publicity
benefit the outcome of these events, but our system has the unique goal
of helping planning committees from related organisations choose the
best date or location for their meeting. We all know how much time and
effort goes into planning a meeting, and so a calendar system that can
help us to avoid conflicting dates or locations will be a benefit to us
all. Imagine how much easier it will be to set a date and location for
your next seminar if you have access to details about every other
orthopaedic event during the period you have in mind.
We call this events database SMOOTH -- SICOT Meeting Organisation
Orthopaedics and Traumatology Harmonisation. It offers a concise
overview of all major orthopaedics and traumatology meetings worldwide,
and will be freely available to everyone from the profession as well as
meeting organisers.
That said, compiling a database of this scale is a formidable task and
will require input from our colleagues all over the world. This is where
you come in. We would like to ask you to join us in pooling our
congress/conference/seminar/events resources and setting up links
between our websites.
We know you are very busy, and we appreciate your time. Thankfully
SMOOTH does not require much effort -- the whole process should only
take a few minutes. First go to our website at www.sicot.org and click
on SMOOTH. Then just fill in the details about your event on the
electronic input form and send it to us. Our system will automatically
put it in the database. The more contributions we get, the more useful
the database will be to us all.
If you have any questions about SMOOTH, please contact Sara Martin at
edsecr@sicot.org and she will be pleased to help. We thank you for your
time and look forward to receiving your events.
Our kind regards,
