Ref.: Ph.D. studentship at Aalborg University's
    Center for Sensory-Motor Interaction (SMI)

    Dear List Subscribers

We are now looking for a female student to do a Ph.D.
related to the use of implanted (cuff) electrodes on muscle afferent
    fibers.
The idea is to extract electroneurographic (ENG) signals
that carry information concerning joint dynamics and apply them
to real-time control of electrical stimulation. The research is at the
animal-model stage. So far, all tests have been performed on rabbits
    and
have been conducted by a Ph.D. student who will soon be defending her
thesis. Emphasis will shift from current extraction of the
ENG-encoded dynamics to actual use of it in real-time FES control.
Several faculty members participate in the project, which also includes
    cooperation with Aalborg's North Hospital.

    The requirements are as follows:
1 - Female (doesn't need to be European)
2 - Must have an MSc. in biomedical engineering or similar
3 - Experience in signal processing and/or control is favorable
4 - Previous exposure to FES and animal or human experiments is
    very favorable, but not required
    5 - Fluent English speaker

SMI is currently one of the world leaders in neuro-prosthetic research.
Here students will encounter a very dynamic and exciting international
    atmosphere.

The Ph.D. program is taught in English and lasts about three years
(a semester abroad can often be arranged).
For further information on our Ph.D. program and
research please visit our site on http://www.smi.auc.dk

Interested parties should reply to this message as soon as possible
    (if possible, before June 27th).
Prospect applicants can go ahead and send me a CV (three pages max.)
and a cover letter in attached form to my E-mail address
    (MS-Word files, please).

Also, feel free to write me for further information.

    Many thanks to all!!!
