    Jus to begin with, the idea of a one-to-one correspondence between
    stress and strain implies a lossless situation. While this assumption is
    appropriate for springs wound of high tensile steel wire, biological
    tissues are often lossy, introducing hysteresis into the stress-strain
    diagram. Another frequently applied term, Thixotropy, addresses rate
    dependent properties, most familiar in Silly Putty.
